Neat truck yes and a cool old engine too  , Pavers and Sealcoat guys love those older trucks and so do the State Police DOT teams  Never a fan of the two speed rear , it just seemed very inefficient, smooth shift and a grinding shift followed by a smooth shift and a grinding shift etc etc .

The old Kawasaki road race Chevy box van had a 5 speed and 2 speed rear end. Once you learned how to match trans and fear gear shift integration, it became very smooth. Too bad it was only a 350, it really needed a big block.

Fastest Steve and I ever got that thing was fully loaded, on the bypass out of Cincinatti, 98 mph. in 1973, we drove it so much, I had to rebuild that mess engine twice. I made it from Loudon, New Hampshire to Santa Ana, Ca, in 42 hours in 1973. Baumann's mechanic just slept, in the sleeper, all the way, he drove like a high school driving instructor, slow, sloppy and totally out of control.

Kawasaki wouldn't let us put a big block in it, said it would cost too much to operate, maintenance and fuel. Yeah, right, versus constantly rebuilding the small block that constantly wore parts out.

I have a nice 1964 Chevy 1 ton dually with 351 GMC big block V6, 5 speed granny low, 2 speed rear end, AC, power steering, power disc brakes, flatbed here now, my shop truck, that dump would look GREAT next to it, but, I don't have the extra bucks. I hope it finds a great home, soon.

Its not hard to shift if you are under load. Let off the gas, mash the button or pick it up and stomp her back to the floor.

My Daddy could drive one smooth as glass, he had this set up in his lime spreader trucks for years in the 70s until he upgraded to diesels with Road Rangers in them. He could split shift up or down in the gearbox and work the button at the same time and never miss a beat. But that came from thousands of miles hauling lime...

Split shifting, its all coming back to me now, those were the good, fun years. We even had fun just getting to the races.

Those Ford trucks, never did love them as much as I did the Chevies, but they never gave up, never wore out
