Hi all ,
i recently fitted a tow hitch to my VW Tiguan.
it came with a lighting kit which i installed without issue.
except it needs a power supply from the battery and in the video they run it under the body and trough the bulkhead to the battery.(very difficult without a car lift).
my question is there is a 12V power outlet (cigarette style) in the trunk area.
can i use that to power the thing ,if so whats the best way to do it.
thanks in advance.
mark

Ant 12 source should work but you may need to increase the fuse size.
PS: I can see the tail lights burning with any 12v source but the brake light will need to be attached to the rear brake light to work.

thanks i tested my install by feeding the wire through the cabin to the battery and all lights/brake lights and indicators work .
it would just be easier to plug it in or connect to the back of the 12v socket some how.
thanks mark

Mark are you just looking for a connector type because you've already solved the power/trigger issue?

I've done a TON of trailer lights over the years and yes the newer vehicles can be a PITA.

So is it a convenient connector you're looking for? How many wires? A flat-four is cheap anywhere. Round types mount better or larger if you need.

Dale is right - you might want to bump up the fuse a few amps depending on LED or conventional 1157 bulbs which draw more.
