With the posts concerning crashes I thought I would share about my ride last Friday;
As is my habit I was riding the Cannondale home from work, riding into a large parking lot past a line of stores where I cross as part of my route.
As I came around the last store, I look to my right and see a Buick grill 15 feet off to my right coming very quickly. I swerved to the left, grabbed both brakes, locked the front wheel and ended up on my hands and knees, inches from the Buick.
An older woman was driving and talking to her friend in the passenger seat, and was flying into a blind corner.
I thought I was a hood ornament for sure, but by the grace of God, I stood up with no damage to me and a scrape on my front brake lever.
I usually ride very defensively and anticipate dangerous situations but, I dropped my guard and almost bit it big.
Lesson: I need to always ride defensively and even if it is not my fault, I am the loser in an argument with a car.
The woman asked me if I was OK, and I said "You might want to slow down."
