As far as zero turn, yes, I think they're well worth it. If I were in the market for one now, I'd probably wait until later in the summer and look for a used commercial one on Craigslist. The 50" Troy-Bilt I got at Lowe's about ten years ago is still like new though, and the kids used it to cut lawns for money for quite a few years, in addition to doing our couple acres. I swear the engine oil lever never changes.

What brand is the used one up the road? My Troy-Bilt was around $3,000 new, and is by no means a commercial mower. It's made by MTD, like a lot of the "name brands" you can get at hardware stores.

Oh, I hadn't heard of "Bad Boy". You can do the research, but it looks like it might also be made by MTD. It looks like that one currently sells for $3,500. Maybe you can talk the guy down to $2k.

You just going to take care of the lawn or do gardening too?

I'm partial to the older Cub Cadets myself.

I bought a late 90"s, 50" Dixie Chopper, zero turn back in 2005 for $1,500. It was a used commercial unit. Put a trailer hitch on it and bought a 3' x 5' trailer from lowes. Real dependable, its been a life saver.

If you want to have fun cutting grass buy an antique farm tractor with a belly mower. My 1944 Farmall A with Woods L306A 72 inch cut undermower is the best $2500 I ever spent. I used to hate mowing grass. Now I look forward to it. Just my 2 cents. I cut 3 acres every week and the A powers through with ease. 16 BHP at the crank and geared like an alarm clock...
