In the late '70s and early '80s I would occasionally to go a local dealer to buy a part, and the parts guy would condescendingly tell me that my '72 H2 was too old, and parts were no longer available. That attitude caused me to make the parts I needed whenever possible, and avoid dealers as much as possible. Nothing any car or motorcycle dealer has ever done since then has convinced me to change my attitude, although I've seen plenty of stuff that reinforces it.

My vehemence towards dealers and most "motorcycle shops" always surprises me, I have a near zero % success rate going to a dealer or most local shops. And when someone mentions it I get a sick feeling and anxiety starts to build EVEN if its not my problem.. :eh:
I am SOOOO happy to have the internet and mail order parts it has made getting advice and parts enjoyable!

Good fortune on finding the needed piston.

The last time I went to my local Kawasaki dealer it was to get a spare key for my Ninja 250. They told me they don't sell keys, and sent me to a hardware store.

Yes, planned obsolete, but, this person was just plain against anything that would help anyone, not just this suggestion. We all lost when he got his way.
