I heat wrapped a pipe on my KDX, really just to give it a tiny bit of impact protection and also because it looks neat, and MOST of all because one of my sons bought it for his car and wound up not using so it was sitting around here. So it was free and sitting here and I was bored today.

If I lay some fiberglass resin over it to sort of keep it from unwrapping or fraying do you think it would hold up to the heat?
The wrap starts about 14 linear inches from the actual exit at this point, mostly.

Thanks

I've seen it ended with wire wrapping. Tag end laid under the six or so wraps and then "twirled" / twisted like a safety wire.

I've both seen, then used regular chicken wire to hold the cloth to the pipes. If I had known there was stainless steel chicken wire back then, I'd have probably used it. Wrapping the primary and front cones helps keep the pipes hot to help manage inside temps and efficiency.

Ahh cool thanks! Never thought of chicken wire!!
I’ve got the ends in place with some narrow stainless hose clamps, it looks pretty good.

Thanks!!

Heat wrap will retain moisture while the bike sits, watch for it causing the pipe to rust over time.

The resin used with fiberglass is usually either epoxy or polyester, and neither will hold up to exhaust temperatures.

Thanks Jim,thats what I was worried about, that it would melt!

DGA, Ive also been told that it will steam alot for a while whenever I do any river crossings.

That realm is new to me, the offroad enduro type riding. I am trying to get some more seat time in, instead of the 1 or 2 vintage MX events I manage to make it to.
The vintage cross country scene is booming around here as well! Ive tried a couple on bikes that were NOT suited for it, and didnt finish either one. I also live within striking distance of some nice trails in coal country.
I just want to ride more.

Those resins are not thermoplastic... they won't melt, they'll char and smoke and stink and ultimately burn.
