I was about 10 (1963-64) myself when I saw all those grey beauties sitting in the Hudson.
We did Hyde Park and West Point and a few other places that weekend.
My Dad was like me and loved to take "family rides".
That was a good 150 miles from our place on the island.
Just a Sunday drive....

As a kid that's all we did went to lots of local places

, my Dad was from NYC and he hated NYC never failed to mention it I suspect that's the reason we never went further south than West Point to see the the mothball fleet , NYC in dad's mind started at the Rockland county line

, we did west point a number of times to Trophy Point to see the war trophies then the museum did the same with my kids but we included NYC, the USS Intrepid and a endless display of military hardware are well worth a trip into the city
