I have a 150 mile round trip commute everyday on the crowded so cal freeways. The 91 fwy through Corona is one of the worst here. This morning I saw
a Yamaha modern sport bike come up beside me and pass. He wasn't splitting lanes or going to fast. As he drove by I thought no way I would every
commute on this crazy freeway. About 10 seconds later his bike was against the center divider in flames and he was laying in the second lane. Several cars
rear ended each other so as not to run over him. I didn't see what happened or who's fault it was. Probably been 20 years since I rode on the freeways
here, I'll stick to the back roads.

It's just the same here in the U.K, you really have to drive very carefully

I've ridden in L.A. before with a buddy who lives there. I can't remember a more harrowing ride.

I live 1/4 mile from the busiest highway in North America - on summer evenings I can hear modern bikes screaming through the gears at 12,000rpm - and I wonder if they will make it home :(

I try to stick to secondary roads but sometimes you have to...take the high road.

I thought the British roads/drivers were bad/homicidal .
until i moved to Houston .
the 610 loop at rush hour (5am till 10pm) is like "Death race 2000. :banghead
going to move "out of town" this year.
hopefully to a more relaxed pace.

I got knocked off my bike last weekend. Guys pulls out of a side street without looking. I could not avoid him. I am still black and blue a week later and the Triumph is totaled. I live in LA and I am thinking really hard about continuing to ride on the streets. I love the back roads and we have some beauties here in SoCal but the city and the freeways scare me. Don't know what to do.

The local riding group that I joined a couple of years ago makes a point of riding back roads for almost the entire ride, only sometimes hopping on a freeway for maybe an exit or two to get to the next back road. The group consists of a majority of riders over 50, with some younger and older, riding all brands and engine cc's. (I mostly ride my 93 Honda Nighthawk but on occasion break out the H2, but stay at the back to spare the others my smoke...). ;) But yeah, I really hate riding either bike on the freeways for extended distances, and am constantly checking my mirrors to see where all the autos are...scary!

I ride my Connie on the big highways ...don't love it, but sometimes you don't have time to use secondary 2-lane roads. I always gravitate to the left lane so I only have to worry about traffic on my right..and I feel like a chameleon: one eye looking backwards and the other forwards.

black and blue Yorkie could be a nice color scheme on a bike not on the body!
sorry for your crash and a good recovery.
