A little update on the Yamaha DT250 barn find I posted on Recent Purchases. The compression was low and it had no spark. I lot of botching had been done on it over the years. I put some oil in the cylinder while i turned it over trying to get spark. I had to do some rewiring to get spark and with all of that turning over, the compression came up. I put gas and oil in it and fired it up. It ran for about 20 seconds and lost compression again. I pulled the head off and found half of the piston skirt missing on the intake side and much of the piston crown flaking off. Someone had run this thing very lean. I split the cases and found one of the crank bearings with a broken cage and balls outside of the cage, yet it spun very smoothly. So, this will require a complete rebuild. Hope to have it ready and at the Gap in May. You absolutely would not believe the crap I found in the ignition switch, the carburetor and everywhere. Barn finds are things that were in a barn for a reason!
