Post subject:  Suggestions wanted..older sportbikes

Due to some recent events inn my life, my old s2 is packed away for now. When things settle down i want to tear it down and give it some much needed attention. (It's the only street bike I've ever had.
Meanwhile one of my sons bought an old honda vtr250 interceptor. That's allot of fun.
I've been thinking about buying an older bike to ride while the old triple is on ice. ..price wise 2000 is my limit. I've been looking at the following....
Vf700 interceptor...vf500 interceptor... Zx7 h1....fz600 genesis....

Any thoughts on these or maybe some other ideas?

I went to the bike show last winter and did not like the seating position of the ducatis and the triumphs...id be staring at the front fender...i dont want to be laying on the tank all the time...
Although the cbr300 i sat on felt great.
Also not a fan of big heavy bikes.
So with the old fz or zx7 s...are you bent over as bad as today's bikes?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Might toss you a little over your 2k limit, but the ZR750S is a "standard" type bike with the sportbike look. From what I've seen, going rate on them is around 2500 and they are only about 10 years old. The GPz550 is also a great bike, but a nice one is usually over 2000. Interceptor and FZ are both good bikes also.

More of an observation than a recommendation, but I just bought a 2005 Ninja 250 for $1,100, so my daughter could have something to ride. After my first ride on it, 30 miles long, I came back and said that if that were the only motorcycle I could ever own for the rest of my life, I'd still be happy riding. In the next couple weeks I put another couple hundred miles on it, and like it even more.

Have you had a look at a '98 ZX9r, not as extreme sitting position as a R1 for example, (they are sports bikes!!) but reliable, fast, light, etc. I had one years ago and I loved it. The ZX7H1 is what, 26 years old now :o , be hard to find a good one...... Don't know much about prices over there, but the 9 is a Kawasaki, and is a well balanced thing. Just one opinion....! Also, any of the ZX7's are good, especially the later ones, '94 on. The earlier ones had really hard suspension, and were a bit sporty, seating wise.... (you did say sports bikes!! :) )

That hasn't changed, Rod. I'd be happy with just my H2, or just my Guzzi, or just the little Ninja. :D Not much similarity between those three either, is there?

I can't say I'd be happy with just the DT100 though, unless all my future riding were going to be on the Dragon and the VIR go-kart track.

Yeah, it's funny Jim, I've always had the fastest thing Kawasaki ever make, as long as it's a Sports bike, (light, short wheelbase, small, etc. etc.). But there are a lot of different types of good bikes!

ZX7 yes you will be in the racer position with a lot of weight on your arms. They are nice bikes though.

I really like older - more conventional bikes. A quick search on CL (1000-2000 price range) showed some wonderful machines.

This Nighthawk caught my eye - and some others.
