Recently wrapped up installing new clutch plates in my KE and the bike feels great riding around town. I rode it to my parents place yesterday, with a few miles on the interstate (55 mph zone). I decided to see what the bike is capable of with the new clutch and gave er what for. Ran her up to an indicated 70 mph and the bike held pretty good, then it would occasionally sput, hiccup, etc. It would settled down when I backed off the throttle. I stayed off the interstate on the way home and didn't really notice any issues.

Was I just using fuel faster than the carb could supply it? Pre-detonation? I don't think it was an overheating issue.

Assuming float level is correctly set and pipes/baffles are clear, give it a little choke. If it gets better, up the main jet size. If it is worse reduce main jet size.

I forgot... didn't you recently seize a piston and replace it? Did you make any jetting changes at that time, or is it possibly still lean at WOT?

I melted a piston trying to ride to Deal Gap. The carb had a non-adjustable needle on it, plus I think I might have assembled it wrong.

The new needle is on the second notch from the top, plug looks great after riding around town. I think it looks a bit rich after extended high speed runs.

It might be time for a real WOT plug chop, after mraxl's test.

The bike is a small enduro, made for puttering around by some 80 lb. kid. It is no way designed to do what you are trying to do with it.

You mean like my DT100 with a 6'-2" 175 lb. rider at the track all day yesterday?

Not to be derogatory, it takes tuning and mechanical skill to run a motor outside the range of it's design parameters. "MYbike" seems to not have much "expertise" yet to be trying the things he is trying.
