I have an unusual question and I thought I would ask here….. I am not so sure how etiquette works in the world of on line forums, but I do know that this was the first forum I ever participated in and pretty much seems really nice, friendly, everyone seems like they truly want to help if they can, same at KTOG also. Is this unusual? And as far a PM's go every time I have ever PM'ed someone here I have gotten a response. Again is this unusual or normal? Do other forms run as well and do they generally have the same etiquette? Or is it because this is such a small community? Ive been trying to get some info on another forum and its like pulling teeth and no one agrees, I should have asked someone on the street ![]() |

From what I've seen, well moderated forums are helpful, and people treat each other with courtesy, but unmoderated or poorly moderated forums quickly degenerate into Lord of the Flies. |

In the world of forums these are relatively small, especially with active members so that helps a lot. Good moderation of forums also helps like Jim said. I also think that what the main topic of the forum is about also plays a lot in what the "attitude" of it is going to be. But to your original question, no not all forums are like this one. |

A lot of , err, "mature" - I use the term loosely - blokes with a common interest and a sense of humour, and yes, just a little moderation!! |

In my opinion.... A good forum is where there is: -focus on a common interest and staying away from divisive issues. -good folks! Keeping the rotten apples out so the barrel isn't contaminated. -common respect. -opportunities for members to get together face to face. Most of the active triples forums do this quite well and are all worthwhile. |

Written communication can be easily taken out of context or interpreted incorrectly. Stay on topic, don't call each other names, offer help, get ideas, post pics, etc. Trolls (the opposite of helpful) quickly get banned. From my experience, things like politics & religion do not belong on motorcycle forums either. |

mraxl wrote: In my opinion.... A good forum is where there is: -opportunities for members to get together face to face I am sure this helps but is certainly not needed for a good forum. Your other points are spot on though. |
