Post subject:  I bought a Suzuki RGV250

I've been looking for many years for a RGV250 VJ22 and finally found one. Took a chance and bought one Sunday night on ebay
and to my amazement won the auction. Guy lived close to work and him had drop it off today. As soon as I got it home I put it on the
lift and spent about a hour on it. Dam thing runs much better that I thought a bike should run after sitting 7 years.
It's un-molested and all stock, all the electrical even works. No title but the Sacramento DMV told me last month
that a 25 year grey market bike no longer needs to have the Fed sticker and just needs to be vin inspected.

I made friends with the local CHP here, helps he's a bike guy too. Plan for the bike is make it rideable and if I like it,
full restore will follow. It's about the same size as Barb's 89 FZR400 but weighs under 300lbs. This one is a early
VJ22A and according to what I can find so far the CDI box is the unrestricted 60hp bike. It does have flat slide
carbs and the restricted 45hp model comes with VM34's. Going to see if I can find the lower fairings that are missing.

Beautiful, you are going to love that thing. Fast, light and a bit flighty, a real 2-stroke feel to those things.

I have the same bike and went with Chinese plastic for it because it fell over on the k stand and got a hole punched in the tail section. I have the OEM side panels if you are interested. They may have some slight scratches but I think they are in pretty good shape. Let me know and I'll dig them out of the attic and take some pics. These pics are from Deals Gap. I have the Chinese Lucky Strike plastics and the plan is to have the tank painted and go with that when time allows.

If the front fairings are OEM I want them. I'll send you a PM.

I bet a 60 HP 250 with good handling is a blast to ride. Is it pretty strong?

Yes, Grey market 250's are a riot, but you have to ring there neck to go anywhere. Every time I rode mine, I felt like I was killing the poor thing... It is NOT a highway cruiser.

My NSR MC21 was derestricted (60 HP), and with the throttle pinned to the stop would top 125. Got there surprisingly quick too.

I have very few regrets in life, but one of them was selling it before bringing it down to the Gap.

Awesome bike Ron! Congrats....

I have been working on it almost non stop since getting it home Tuesday night. Cleaned and adjusted the carbs and pulled the clutch apart to
free it up. Bike needs a full resto but I want to get it rideable first. Tank was full of fuel and un-touched for many years. Looked real bad inside
but it seems to be just varnish like and comes up. Did get to ride it around the block last night, only rear brake is working. Super light and fun,
sounds cool when you rev it. Got lots of parts on order already including all the front brake parts. John that responded has the side panels so
that's cool. Will give it a nice paint job and will stay with the same paint scheme. These bikes look real nice when you put on nice chambers,
quite a selection is available too.

Starting the title process Thursday at the CHP with the vin inspection. Will probably go the Vermont route first since there is no paperwork.
Had the CHP run the vin and nothing comes up in any state. Going to call Sacramento again too and get as much info as possible. Just got the
paperwork from Oregon on my nightmare H2 frame. Now I can take that back to CA DMV and hopefully complete the paperwork. I have seven
triple motors in the shop right now, just never ends.
