As you know, I cover a LOT of miles and States in the U.S. but NO-WHERE Have I ever seen as many cops waiting and hunting down people speeding, they hunt in packs of 6, especially on I75, One spots and the others just chase the cars down, I travel that route often and it's relentless, every 20 - 30 miles there will be a "gang" waiting to pounce, and when they do you will see them with a sucker pulled over every 2 miles, if not hunting in gangs they are liberally splattered around the State with their lasers

Yep. Remember the unwritten rule and you will be okay: when riding the 285 loop, the right hand lane is 55 mph. Working towards the left lane, each one is progressively 10 mph faster such that the left lane is 95 mph. If you don't do the proper speed, you will get run over. I drive in Atlanta all the time. Cobb County is the worst with the cops, so keep your eyes open.

So. just interested, what is the Overall "speed" limit in the U.S, Probably varies state to state? it's going down all the time here, 68mph in (parts of) South Australia, 62 elsewhere...... Should be another word for "speed" limit, like "boring, fatigue-inducing" limit...... :banghead

After the gasoline "crisis" in the '70s, the US got a national speed limit of 55. It was done by requiring the states to go along with it or lose federal funding. That's over now, and I'm not aware of any national pressure for a speed limit. There are rules that have to do with proximity to populated areas though. On interstate 95 that runs N-S near the east coast, the parts I drive on range from 55 to 70 mph depending on road conditions and nearness to cities.

Route 85, where it passes near my area in NC, has a limit of 65 mph, and people drive about 65-75. The Washington, DC Beltway has a limit of 55, and people drive about 65-75.

We have a new toll road in Central Tx with a speed limit of 85 and you will never see a cop on it. Big, flat, two mile visibility and you better be able to run the number....ha.
