The other problem is all this traction control, ABS, and the like. You don't have to learn any of the "tricks" that always worked and when you try to drive a vehicle with all this stuff it just doesn't work like it once did.
I was driving my wives CX9 AWD today in the snow, hated it!
Give me regular 4wheel drive, or rear wheel, or front wheel, no ABS and no traction control and good tires!
Im sure the statistics prove otherwise but thats my 2 cents.

EXACTLY!!!

The 3 most important things when it comes to winter driving are GOOD TIRES, Common Sense, and a bit of Skill....

and I'd say that on 95% of the vehicles I've owned and driven, Anti Lock brakes are set up too sensitive and are more of a hindrance than a help. Traction control is a joke of its own.

I went to visit my mom yesterday who lives about 7 miles away.
It was in the 50's and raining.
I was driving at 60 MPH until I hit the backups.
On Interstate 495 there were 3 accidents all with tow trucks and cops and the cars were either smashed into the guardrail or off the side of the road.

On the way home there were 2 more similar accidents.

Did I mention it was durning the day with rain and 50 degree weather?
I taught me kids that other than a gun, the most dangerous tool one would have would be a 250 HP, 3,000 lb vehicle.
Freakin crazy out there.
