I had a Tyco slot car set and a Tyco train set (late 70's/early 80's). I don't remember much about the slot car set, but I played with the trains quite a bit...until my brother broke it.

My favorite/most memorable toy of my childhood was my dads (circa mid-50's) Erector set which he grew up with.
The set is still at my parent's house btw...

He had this exact set. rope swing

I cannot even begin to tell you how many hours I spent building contraptions with it. and not once did I ever build what it was supposed to be.

Car's that plugged into the wall requiring 3 or 4 extension cords, construction equipment (cranes, mostly).

Cool toy that taught manual dexterity (itty bitty nuts/bolts) and imagination.

There was a slot car business in my town that had three huge tracks to race on.
I could ride my bicycle to the place. I spent a lot of time there.

The place I rode my bicycle too had three of these monster tracks......cool stuff....
This is what I did all day just before reaching 18 and getting my own motorcycle.

Cody, I have my father's Erector set from the '20s. It's two wooden boxes of stuff, and I played with it like you did.

I had an early Aurora set. The two cars included were a 62 Ford Country Squire and a Cobra. Not really a fair fight.

I went from hard tires and hard plastic bodies as a kid to super sticky tires with glue in the corners, brass & tubing chaises with air dams on the sides when I got back into it in college.
We also cut open the top of the controllers to add huge heat sinks. The shop had a big magnetizer and my buddies car went an honest 45 MPH on the straightaway.

Still have a couple cars in boxes; if I can find them easy I'll post a pic.
