Don, NICE BIKES, sir.

I worked for a shop here for about two years, fixing mess ups by the ther mechanics in the area, and at that shop. It was a dirt bike shop, very few street bikes at all, and they raced those 4 strikers regularly. The racer bikes were a lot less prone to wear, problems, than the cow trailers and enduro's, but, all of 'em needed a lot more maintenance and rebuild than any of the two strokes around here.

Here, it is 95 percent in favor of the two strokes winning and living long lives, vs the 4 strokes ridden in the same races. It also takes a lot more effort to get to the crank of a 4 stroke dirt bike, they have pressed together cranks with roller bearing full circle rods, than it does to get to the two stroke crank for the same operation.

On most of the 4 strokes, it takes an act of diety just to get the engine out of the chassis, it has to be in one certain position, or the engine will not clear the frame on the way out, nor on the way back in. Even the KTM's were the same, 2 strokes, ran well, lived long (a full season of racing and other riding), 4 strokes, dead players in two races, complete rebuild.

I have an F9 here, the engine runs fine, the chassis is good, needs the tank fixed and painted, and the wiring loom repaired, and then I can ride it on the street.

I have a second hopped up F9 engine sitting here, and a nice S3 chassis to put it into for a street screamer.

Lots of projects, not much free time.

My favorite observation:
It takes twice the displacement of a 4-stroke to equal the power of a 2-stroke
Kind of like what the NHRA does in Pro Stock Bikes giving the Harley's more than their fair share of breaks over the Suzuki's

If Yamaha was smart, the would start small and come out with a new RZ 350 2 stroke street bike !!!!! I believe that bike was priced right would sell well for them !!!!!! From what I read,it seems that their MT 09 Triple 4 stroke is selling really well.As a matter of fact the article said Yamaha was caught by surprise at the demand for the bike !!!!! Last year Yamaha said they had a bunch of new bikes in the works and some exciting surprises !!!!! One can only hope !!!!!

"If Yamaha were smart", they'd build a liquid cooled, EFI, case reed, electronic power valve, 9 port cylinder, Polini type pneumatically adjusted/controlled combustion chamber head, 7 speed, inline two stroke triple street bike.

But, then, Kawasaki and Suzuki aren't that smart, either, they already have had the basics worked out for decades, and still refuse to do anything that direction.

Sad at best.

If anybody ever offers a new two-stroke streetbike it won't be one of the Big Four as it won't be Politically Correct. It's far more likely that a small company- Aprilia, KTM?- will take the plunge, if anybody.
