Don, NICE BIKES, sir.
I worked for a shop here for about two years, fixing mess ups by the ther mechanics in the area, and at that shop. It was a dirt bike shop, very few street bikes at all, and they raced those 4 strikers regularly. The racer bikes were a lot less prone to wear, problems, than the cow trailers and enduro's, but, all of 'em needed a lot more maintenance and rebuild than any of the two strokes around here.
Here, it is 95 percent in favor of the two strokes winning and living long lives, vs the 4 strokes ridden in the same races. It also takes a lot more effort to get to the crank of a 4 stroke dirt bike, they have pressed together cranks with roller bearing full circle rods, than it does to get to the two stroke crank for the same operation.
On most of the 4 strokes, it takes an act of diety just to get the engine out of the chassis, it has to be in one certain position, or the engine will not clear the frame on the way out, nor on the way back in. Even the KTM's were the same, 2 strokes, ran well, lived long (a full season of racing and other riding), 4 strokes, dead players in two races, complete rebuild.
