I helped a friend restore a 64 rampside pickup. He also had a van with the doors on the left side, a rare (but factory) option. 8-) Greenbriar was the model designation for the passenger version of the van.

Did Ralph Nader kill the Corvair? Friend's parents had one in high school, it was surprisingly fast, we loved cruising in it. It was GMs answer to VW but it had more in common with Porsche.

Didn't RALPH NADER go after the covair as a roll over suspect ?
Was it Nader who went after the Ford Pinto as a fire/explosion gas tank issue ?

Ah, yes, the "Rampside". Mel Dinesen, a San Diego road racing sponsor and tuner used to transport is TZ750 racers to and from AMA events all across the country in his Rampside, never had a problem. If I remember correctly, Jim Evans rode his bikes for a couple of years, good team.

Last I remembered, Hurley Wilvert had a couple of them, and was in a Corvair Club. His are/were all stock, flat 6 air cooled, and not the butchered up 4.3 V6 n the back.

The original engines had a couple of problems, as I remember, rods were made of silly putty, and didn't interchange with anything else. No H beam rods back then. Air fan bearings were not as good as they should have been, they seized and stopped the fan, melting the engine right down. I'd sure like to see a liquid cooled, supercharged, EFI engine for that, flat 6, 5 speed, what a fun deal that would be. Turbo engines needed EFI, single carb was always a pain, but a full on gas to drive when you got the carb right.

That is a really nice looking 'Vair!

Ahhhh...this more like it............ 8-)
