Nice machine......I have my dad's 83 ironhead here, the tranny broke loose somehow and two gears got together. I'm hoping this winter to stuff a new (to me) tranny in it and get her back on the street in the spring.

Well it didn't sell, guess I'm taking it to work Tuesday. I'll bring some tools. It's 32 miles round trip. Better bikes than this one haven't made it, lol.

I have a 77 Ironhead 1000cc with tons of extras and upgrades. I have all the original parts and new seals for the whole bike but it doesnt leak much at all.

Runs strong and fast! Currently a kick start.

I have priced this to sell today! Look at other people asking 2500-3500 and mine runs just as good if not better!

NO TRADES!!

A freind of mine was given a nice white sportster by her step father, he bought it but was afraid of it. She brought it over for the obligatory carb cleaning/plug and oil change. It was easy to work on and looked like a new bike, when we finished she let me take it for a ride...OMG, they really are as slow as people say, I twisted the throttle in first and it started to miss, like super bad, same thing in second and third...then I realized it was on the rev limiter....at 6,500 rpm, it hit the limiter in top gear at 85mph !!!

Then Motorcyclist has a short blurb about the orginal that came out in 1959, it was faster and lighter than the 2009 model.

Its not apple to apple, actually it would be like comparing a water melon to a grape, but a ZX14 has a higher top speed in 1st gear than a Sportster in fifth.

Barry, I think you have to buy an adapter to plug that into a '79.

You can get around the rev limiter, but you can't get around that engine design. It won't make any more power as-is.
