High end remodeling in the DC area
Lead carpenters with 10 years experience get paid aprox. $23 - 27 per hour + health insurance, + paid vacation (after 1 year) + a very nice 1 ton van, plus a gas allowance and a $500 tool allowance (each year)
They bill at approx $90 - $100 per hour

Electricans and plumbers (with a masters license) get paid approx $30 - 35 per hour with all the same benefits and bill at about $125 per hour

There are a lot of collge grads that don't make $60 - 70K per year around here

A lot of high school grad small business owners that make more than college grads.

Did I miss something this thread was about labor rates not wages :?

Hey, it's a freebie; good info for free
Thought it might be of interest as this was in RB's post:

"Obviously there is a difference between what a business charges and what the employee gets, so lets go for what the company charges"

Yes Dave. My son was a mechanic here in Colorado Springs. No certs etc but worked in a big shop with lots of ASC guys and such. He was the general grunt tire guy and all-around give the crap stuff too (like swapping out window motors and such). He was pulling $16 an hour here plus over time. He moved back to San Mateo and can't even FIND mechanic jobs for more than min wage. So he's schlepping modular furniture panels at Kaiser at $12 an hour.

Cost of living here MUCH less than Bay Area and wages generally same or even more here.

Lucky! I would have been more than happy making $38-52 an hour when I was turning wrenches for a living.

A couple of years back, still seems applicable around here from what I've seen -

Motorcycle Shop Labor Rate: $80.00 per hour

Set up kids, setting up new motorcycles and grunt work, $8.50/hr

Entry Level Tech $12.50-14.00/hr

Mid level tech $17.50

Good tech, nailing productivity goals, $30.00/hr range

30 years ago set up work was 10 dollars per dirt bike and ATV and 15 on road bikes, we made good extra money Christmas time , there was no "Set Up Kid" set ups were done after by techs after hours, Tech's made 5 dollars an hour and 5% on weekly service invoices, labor rate was 35 per hour, all m/c parts were marked up 100%...
