I like the Honda CB700S Nighthawk - It meets most of your stated requirements. I have seen a few very nice examples on local CL a few times.

I have an 01 ZRX with 113,000 kms on it never been opened, just lots of regular maintenance. Still runs great, no smoke or funny noises.
It has a Muzzy slip on, filters, jetted properly. It pulls like a freight train and runs great, I would still take it anywhere.
Adam.

Ya got to keep it in the family :D
I love my '82 GPz750. Cool retro styling and just enough performance to be fun without being stupid. Oh and parts are still available and pretty cheap.

My ZRX 1100 has 42K on it-runs like new. There's a low mileage ZRX on the ZRXOA board for $2800 in NC. :o

I had a Honda 919 and really liked it. They can be had for a fairly good price these days.

Here's mine pretty much as I sold it

Image

Dyno'ed 107 real horsepower with PCIII and a pipe, with a really nice fat powerband.

Not too heavy, comfortable, it was a great bike.

Made the ZRX1100's I'd ridden feel top heavy and slow.

One to consider

Exceptional machines, ultra reliable and low maintenance (hydraulic valves).

Plenty of power as well, redline was over 10K if I remember right.

Suzuki Bandit could be a player in this field too. I see them very inexpensive on area CL all the time.

in the $1000-$1500 range....KZ650 Vintage, Cool, Faster enough, sound nice with 4 into 1, decent MPG

3G's will buy one heck of a decent ZRX1100, and if patient... a ZRX1200 (quicker, faster)

Phenominal bike for the money with that vintage look and feel. ZRXforum classifieds is where to buy.

My favorite 4 stroke to date is my Weestrom...... makes no sense to me either, but I just absolutely love this bike. Its stupid looking and a wanna-be BMW, but I dare you to ride one and say "I dont like it"..... 100,000 mile LOW maintenance engines, 55+mpg even when hammering on it.

$3500-$4000 will get you into a nice Wee.

^^^^ Being a bit dense, I typed "weestrom" into google, and V-strom was the first result it pulled up
