I have a Lawnboy I bought new in 1985. It's amazing; to date one new pull cord and 2 new wheels...that's it. Original everything else except a new plug every 2 years. I could never get a 4 stroke because my back yard to front yard involves a steep climb up the steps. Even my wife can carry the aluminum Lawnboy up and down (she can't get the knack of one-pull starting though ;) ). I burn Klotz in it for the benefit of my snooty neighbours lying around their pools.

By the way, the red foam off the outside of my Uni filters is what I use in my mower..

The one I've got is a S21ESNA, S-series, 21", self-propelled, flywheel brake, system, electric start with bag It was given to me and it doesn't look to of been used much. I've had it running and mowed with it. I need to go thru the fuel system and get a battery.

I found and bought this mower a couple of weeks ago. Paid $400 and it was tough to find. It's a 2003 model Toro Commercial 22043 21" walk behind with the Suzuki TV5002 2 cycle engine/ blade brake clutch model. What a strong, smooth machine! I put on an inline fuel shut off valve and a newly sharpened Oregon Manufacturing Gator mulching blade before cutting. This is a quality machine and exceeds my expectations in every way. Quiet too as compared to my 2 cycle Lawn Boys. I've been on a mower buying kick lately as I've purchased 2 in the last 3 weeks and sold my C21 '91 model 2 cycle Lawn Boy. Still need one other mower for a remote location and debating which route to go there- options considered: frankenmower with a new Honda gv160 motor on a snapper deck (self propelled), used 4 cycle 21" Snapper or Toro SP, or another used 2 cycle Lawn Boy or Toro GTS series. Looking at about $100- $150 with the budget on any of the 3 options.

My LB hadn't been ran in a while. I drained the tank, put fresh fuel and a new plug in it and it would not start. It never even tried to start. Plug was dry and the spark was weak. Do you know any good two stroke mechanics?

Lots of good 2 stroke mechanics here!  The ignition coils on the LBs tend to be the weaknesses overall for most all of the models/ years. Does the spark look good when checked? I'm betting a new coil is needed and some are cheap even OEM. Try jacks small shop or mow parts web sites. Plug in your LB model and search the fische.

Thanks EW, it wouldn't even hit on starter fluid so I'm thinking I'll replace the coil. It's just been too dang hot to do any wrenching here. To hot to ride even.

That is the reason they invented Air Conditioning. Put one in your shop. You will not regret it.

I hear you Mark. I'd built me a great shop with AC and let my wife talk me into moving to a house with no shop...not even a way to build a shop here. We hope to down size in a couple of years and I'll be sure the next place will have a shop or a place to build one.
