I'm 53 and still try to spend a few hours a week on the bike projects. I have a 80 mile commute and have to leave at 0530 and get home about 1840 if traffic is moving ok. I spend at least a hour a day on ebay looking for parts or listing stuff to sell. My wife helps out a lot with the ebay stuff so if I have the energy I will spend a hour in the garage wrenching on a bike. Wish I was in my 30's again

Bikes are the hobby but now, when getting older the lazy factor is slowly stepping in - probably i wouldn't do an engine overhaul anymore. There are better guys than me to do it nowadays, done few bikes and cars but not recently. All smaller things i still do but the wrenching is not anymore a passion like riding.

Smokin hit the nail on the head for me - now just need to identify who these better guys are!?!?!?! Who are these guy in the U.S.?

Thanks, Phil

Luckily we dont have any more kids at the house except the occasional grandchild. The wife does her thing and when I get home from work, I'll slide right out to the garage for an hour or two turning wrenches and such. There's always something to do and I get bored relatively easy watching the TV unless there's something good on. Here lately with teh days getting longer and warmer, I find myself staying out there longer and longer.

Good post and I had a similar one way back when on KTW. I have to schedule time for projects but like many here, the Gap can put things into motion pretty quickly. ;) I have always viewed wrench time as positive mental health therapy! There's your free tip for the day- carry on......

Take your dump at work.

Oops! I see that was suggested already from some other time management pros.

I will be 56 this month. Lots of things to do around the house and yard but I try to set aside time for work in the garage. As mentioned, it is therapeutic. I know my limits for projects and don't get overloaded with things that I can never get to.

Best thing I did to help me get more time in the garage was to buy my wife the sewing machine she has always wanted. She is inside quilting while I am outside wrenching. We both get some "ME" time that way.

I should mention that I don't watch TV except an occasional movie on Netflix. Look at how much time you put into TV and you will find the extra time you have been looking for. My life is too brief to stare at the tube for several hours a day.

Good thread.

I'm fortunate that I'm past the raising kids and such - and have a wife who knows the value of "Our Time" and "My Time" (5 marriages you would think too). Plus as we're all getting older some of it is just life experience too.

We're not huge TV people either Kevin - but buying a new flat-panel and fixins for it couple years ago = we watch more now that before. I've always had TV's in my garage but a lot of it is for background noise and WW2 movies on June 6.

Mark and Wendy were here recently and he saw my garage (and Roger and many others) - a great place to spend time

Great thread. I love sawracers trick taking a sneaky day off work to tinker in the garage.
Me...In my late teens i had no money. Rode dirt bikes and road bikes all strokers and partied hard
In my 20s-30s i traveled the world partied hard, traveled more, partied more. Never owned a thing. Came back home at 35
46 now. No kids. Only watch a bit of TV really just to sit next to the misses for an hour or so. Otherwise i would be in the garage.
Got the bike bug back when i decided too sell the crappy H1 that was sitting in the corner of the garage. It was the last bike i owned before i went overseas when i was 22. Dad stored it for me. I thought id better get it going to get the best price. The rest is history.
I have three bikes now. No kids so get plenty of wrenching time. I actually prefer wrenching than riding for some reason. I love working on them. Although, i do kick myself sometimes for spending so much money on the dang things. Got plenty of time now, had two months of work and one to go after a bike crash at the track. So days are spent spending money on the computer, and when i get a sore neck from looking at computer, i go wrenching, then drink beer, then the misses cooks dinner.
Im living in an oasis
