I have a Vermont registration for my RGV and have decided to exit Ca. for good. Want to move to somewhere I can legally title and register
the bike. Should have left California years ago but I have stayed because of my great job at Ferrari. So with only a Vermont registration,
would your state title the bike?

VA took my VT registration for my RD 350 and gave me a VA title in about 10 minutes. They had to drag out thier big book and verify that VT is a non title state for older motorcycles. But other than that it was painless.

I should have the final answer from Carson City by late Tuesday for you. I also have an address that I own next to mine here, I am figuring it could be a "vacation home". It has half my shop on it, so, it does have a building.

Since it already has a Vt title, the only question has to come from one guy in Cartoon City, and he has been gone for three weeks. He'll be back Monday.

When I registered my RZ500 here, it had been a Kaliforia mess, with them pulling the reg. It was simple, inspect the VIN, obtain one for taxes from Canada, pay fees, mount plates, go ride.

I don't think it will be very hard to get it done.

It's crazy how California will make it impossible to title and register some bikes. What really pulls my chain is that so many people
here drive with expired registrations, no insurance or license. The police just turn the other way because if they impound their cars
it's called racism here. If a tax paying citizen does that, they impound your car for 30 days and huge fines. If I ride the Suzuki with the Vermont
plate and get stopped, they can impound the bike and destroy it. Just don't seem far does it. And I do have it insured too. Can't wait till
we leave Ca. for good, no more Gov. moonbeam either. :wtf: Thanks for the responses guys.

Kalifornia is a real PITA to register some vehicles, especially two strokes, more so, if they are also Grey Market.

When I first registered the RZ, it was easy, Canadian statement of origin, no taxes/fees due to Canada, and the previous Canadian owner's documents, sailed right through.

Two weeks later, hate letter, "we're coming for you and your puppy, surrender both the Kalifornia title, registration, AND the motorcycle, we will have a mobile vehicle crusher there to render the vehicle unusable/destroyed". I countered with "The vehicle isn't in Kommunist Kalifornia any longer, but, return the original paperwork to me, and you can have the plates and registration back". Five weeks later, after going back and forth with the State Aty. General, and DMV, I stood in the Whittier DMV, their stuff in one hand, they with the Canadian stuff in their hand, we both held all the stuff at once, and we let go of the other stuff, returning it to the right persons.

The reason for all this, emissions. Canadian vehicles weren't built to either U.S., nor Kalifornia specs, so, no go to Kalifornia. However, NEW Kalifornia spec vehicles, bought new, had the ability for their owners to NOT have emissions inspections for a total of two complete emissions inspections cycles, 4 years, and, if a fee was paid at new purchase, another two years were added, so, the first emissions tests would be mandatory at the 6 year mark, because Kalifornia was erroneously convinced that NO new vehicles ever had emissions system failures. This would mean that if a new vehicle emissions system had an issue, and started belching out some form of deadly, toxic killer chemical, the vehicle would go the entire 6 years doing so, because even if the "check engine" light went on, most of those vehicles wouldn't need any servicing for 50K miles, so, dealers would never see the cars and find the problems.

It was just that insane there, cars broken for 6 years, and bikes that were run less than 4K miles per year, that polluted a lot less than a broken new car. Before that, near where I lived, one wrecking yard, Ecology Center, was on a state program to pay $700.00 per old car, drag, pull, push, trailer, drive it in, get it crushed, here's yer bucks. There was NO saving a lot of really historic cars, we'd watch them come in, offer a grand, and watch the "environMENTALists" crush 'em anyway.

If you do decide to come this way, avoid Clark (Las Vegas), and Washoe (Reno) Counties, they have Kalifornia style emissions regulations and mandatory inspections.

So Dave, will I have to get a Nevada driver's license to go through the process?

I don't see why you would. You will have to have a Nevada street address, and insurance for the bike to keep it registered, but that is easy. Claim this is a summer, or winter address, you spend 6 months a year here. That is what I have been waiting for to get for you, that particular info.

I had a friend use my other address for his for over 3 years, registered his BMW car here, lived in California, NO worries. He finally moved from Ca to Las Vegas in September, 2015, got a Nv. license.

Main thing is to escape that place, it just isn't healthy living there.

I think there might still be a Ferrari store in Reno.

I think California is the only state that beats NY on over governing and over everything else  you have the Moonbeam guy and we have Captain Ego , two jerks.... the good news even NY recognizes a Vt registration for now anyway.

I do believe Kolorado is dead neck and neck with Kalifornia as far as over governing, and political co4rrectness.

I lived in California for many years, was a great place to live, and, in the last 25 or so years, it got progressively (there's a politically correct word for us all) WORSE. There are still a lot of great people in Kalifornia, and we escapees hope they can all escape to better places, soon, MUCH better places. "Sustainable" is another P/C word, too bad we arrive at it AFTER the places we are in have been totally messed up, and will manage to sustain that ongoing mess. There are also some fantastic places there as well, too bad those people (extremely adverse political climate and lack of fair and balanced leadership) have them.

Anyway.....it is what it is.
