Regarding turbos, rather than "handling" (there's that old chestnut again), the Kawasaki turbo was easily as fast as the 'Litre' bikes of the time - which were actually 1100/1200 cc, heavy as, and long in the wheelbase, etc. Kawasaki led with the GPZ900r (ninja 900), and the turbo was not to be dismissed lightly. For its time, it was a fast bike, and did everything relatively well. I had a GPZ900, and spent a bit of time either riding a friends turbo, or trying to stay in front of it, not so easy! (They all steered like trucks, except the GPZ900, with its 16" front wheel.. ) Did the turbo Kawasaki have a 16" front wheel, that would be an interesting combination!!

Rod,
How did either of the GPZ's handle compared to an H2 with decent rear shocks?

The GPZ was heavy, and l-o-n-g, but it did steer really quick with that silly 16" front wheel. It was fine on higher speed sweeping corners, (more top end than a H2). The H2 would kill a lot of bikes on the tighter "point and shoot" type roads. We have a lot of bumpy, twisty roads here, and I always thought the H2 did well on that type of road - I never "got" the "evil-handling" triple thing - relative to the day, if you follow! I would always go for light weight, and a short wheel-base, if you're going hard thru the twisties, (and mid-range punch, like a H2).

Had an 84 Ninja 900 and my brother had the 750 Turbo, 750 had a slight advantage in acceleration (real slight) that all changed when on the advise of Harry Mailet of Performance Works I put a set of CR33's on with his jetting.....bye bye turbo by ALOT, this was with stock exhaust FWIW.

I gather the Turbo could also get way faster with an easy mod for more boost.
