Anyone that says Harley's are unreliable is stuck in the past at least 30 years behind the times, the Evolution engine ended all that, its gas and go and for a lot of miles at that, those HD' can go some serious mileage.

Personally I like almost any bike maker but the Harley is a well built bike tough and durable, gas a go, or hot rod it

According to this chart M/C sales are down across the board , I would think the economy and a sales slump are related.

My local HD shop is open 7 days a week has at least one big event a month that draws fairly large crowds.

I think BMW sales are up......

BTW, of the last 30 years I see HD guys buying HD in large part because "My Dad had one....I always wanted one" thing. If HD is down now, they will, in time, resurface for the very same reasons. There are an awful lot of kids who've grown up in the past 30 years who will have the same argument.

A good friend started in sales and then became sales manager at our harley dealership, until a few years ago. The shop was huge, and always full, he said they were the biggest pieces of crap out there......... But that's one guys opinion...... ;)

my father in law has a heritage softail (bought from pressure from my mother in law) and a vtx 1300 hes had for years.

after he bought the harley, he was going to sell the honda.. yeah, that didnt happen. the honda is just a better bike. Still has it but i think the harley is on its way out.

and the plastic chrome? harley is as guilty as anyone on that front.

Mark I don't know how you can blantently say that - almost NO plastic on most HDs and what there is will be fairing and saddle bag bits. I dare you to go to the 2014 line up and back and show me a lot of plastic.

Most of Yamaha's Star lineup is all fricking plastic. Suzuki Boulevards have a bunch and Honda Shadow has more plastic than Ken and Barbie in a firepit.

x2 on that

almost 30 years ago but I was a mech at some bike shops and set up hundreds of bikes,Honda/Suzuki/ Yamaha and HD, there is very little plastic on a HD :? only plastic I can remember is tank divider on the FX bikes and the windshields on the tour and I bet there has never been any plastic chrome on an HD, now the Japanese brands forget the dirt bikes and the street its obvious ,but the high end touring bikes wow its mega plastic and plastic chrome too ,

the tank divider is exaclty what i was thinking of. and there are bits and pieces here and there, for sure.

Keep in mind, there is lots of chrome on my falcons.. but it doesn't make the cars any better. the 2011 mustang sitting in my driveway and the 350Z in the garage are 10x better engineered.

If you take all the sales of the japanese cruisers and compare them to harley.. who has the higher sales numbers? methinks you will find that the japanese numbers are way higher.

I'm all for tradition but there's a time where you have to move on. There's a place for the big Harley cruiser in the market, for sure, but they should really do some innovation. eventually their market will die off.
