Hey just had a friend tell me that those individual carb air filters the cone type with the chrome cap cause power loss and was proven under dyno on an H2.. can anyone verify this because I'm running them on my 71 h1a and if true I'm not a big fan of foam type because of decay sluff-off.. Any feed back is greatly appreciated !! Thanks Steve |

The reversion wave off of the filter back can cause all sorts of tuning problems on piston ports. And can cost power production. If you aren't having problems, then you are ok, just maybe not making all the power you can. Definitely not for modified motors. And a bit of sloughed foam from a filter, is not going to hurt anything. |

Ok so if I run without filters and don't notice much of a difference in performance then keep running the cones?? and if I do then go to the foam? Thanks Moo Steve |

That's really not a comparison, as no filter will need rejetting. |

With foam filters, you might also consider getting two or all three of them with the angle to them, to clear the frame down tubes on each side. On my H2, all are the angled versions, with the two outer positioned down and slightly in, and the center slightly up. |

Just an FYI: Uni filters can be had in custom lengths...just call the factory (just a few dollars more than stock sizes). |

Any feed back is greatly appreciated !! Thanks Steve I didn't notice a difference on my bone stock H1D. I suspect there might be a noticeable difference with chambers and other mods. I did have to re-jet from the chrome K&N's from the stock system. Am using foam UNI's on my H2. |

I think you need to be specific about what brand of pod filters. For instance if you are talking about the cheap EMGO filters....well you will have all sorts of problems with them and not all related to the metal cap. EMGO filters have a lip inside them that chokes down the carb orifice, combined with the reversion off the metal top make them almost impossible to tune for. Uni and k&n don't have this problem. |
