I finally picked out a new shoe for the S3. I can't really throw stones at the old cheng shin tire I had on her. I got 14k out of that tire, even when I abused it. ![]() ![]() |

Well, I do remember you having trouble last year in the high speed turns because it was sliding, Richard. If you're out for mileage, go to the dark side. ![]() |

BT-45's work on corners, as well as straights!! (I think the rear is a dual-compound?) |

When I got my '72 H2 on the road a few years back I put Cheng whatevers on it because I was impatient and they said I would need to wait a few weeks for Spitfires (they told me I couldn't get Battleaxe in the proper size). How bad could they be, I thought? Last spring, I finally "woke up" and put on BT-45s. The difference is absolutely unbelievable. I can lean the bike without holding my breath! Even braking is substantially better. From what I have read about H1's and H2's and their legendary "crappy" handling - I believe the legend was substantially perpetuated by poor tires on the early bikes. I will never put inferior tires on a bike again! Well....maybe the KV ![]() |

I didn't win many races, but I did win a production bike race on a H2 fitted with Yokohama "world-tour" tires, they were as hard as a rock! ![]() |

This one is a 110/90-18, same as stock. I was afraid to try a 120. Seems I remember putting one on a long time ago and it was too tight in the rear and if it wasnt placed exactly right, it would rub the turn signal stalks on heavy suspension movement and burn the wire in two. This one looks good, smells good, and if it smokes good and sticks in the corners, we have a winner. I'll be putting it through it paces. ![]() ![]() I didnt swap the front out. The front still looks good with over 80% of the tread and no cracks so I left it. The old cheng shin did start sliding a little on the hard high speed turns, especially when we all went on the skyway that one day. I kept wondering what was going on with it, especially after that ride, until I looked at how much tread had been taken off that day alone, then I knew it was walking. The scalloping of the side tread on both sides really told the story. ![]() I have one more burnout to leave with this old tire before I change it out. ![]() |
