I go for knee surgery tomorrow morning. I am getting an ACL repair, clean out, and any other needed repairs. First time surgery(except a hernia when I was a baby). The bright side, I get some much needed time off of work. The down side, I don't think it is gong to be very productive and the pays not as good. |

Good luck - you realize this is a band-aid. Eventually just opt for a total replacement I did the band-aid thing for 20 years and finally had it all replaced - no regrets.

Good luck tomorrow and I'll say a prayer for you, the surgeon and the entire hospital team. I tore my left ACL completely in half in '02 ( at age 42 ). I had reconstructive surgery. My surgeon did a "patella graft" which they take the center of your patella tendon and use that as new ACL. I had one of those wraps for my knee with a motorized pump for ice water immediately after surgery. Basically an Igloo cooler with quick connect lines. If you get one ( if not, demand one) keep the ice water as cold as you can tolerate. The cooler you keep your knee, the greater the reduction in swelling. Reduced swelling means much less pain. They will give you meds for pain. Use them and try to keep on a consistant schedule. Pain management is the key. If you wait to take a pain pill until you're really hurting, you'll end up needing more medication with no added benefit. Follow EXACTLY what the surgeon and physical therapists tell you do. Yes there will be some discomfort but work thru it to get back your knee. Now that's it's been over 10 years since I had mine done, it still works great and the only limitations are the ones I put on myself ( now that's I'm almost 53  )Good luck and if you have questions, email or PM me.
