Just bought my first Kawsaki 74 H1. Can anyone tell me a good place to buy a decent Dial gauge. A type that screws into the head rather than a magnetic base type preferred. Thanks to all, for your the help for the first buy. Robert

There's a guy from Poland who looks like he has a good rig for fair money

I didn't see the Polish one, but this should be good.

Be wary though - I bought one that is too big to use if the engine is in the bike.

You can get a generic dial indicator and make an adapter from an old spark plug if you want to economize.

H2dude has a slick setup... A small bezel indicator, It might even fit on the center cylinder of my special! :) but forgot to ask him where he got it.
I searched eBay for something similar and came up with this... It would still need a plunger extension plus the spark plug adaptor but I like the compact size.

Like Jim said, I made my own with a Harbor Freight indicator and a spark plug with the porcelain removed. I just used masking tape to get a tight fit between the indicator and the spark plug. It's just barely long enough to work on my H1, but it does work.

If you visit the 2-Stroke World board, there is a good thread on this subject, including how I made my setup.

Read the specs of that type carefully. I think the one in your link has a range of ±0.031". Those neat little ones are usually made to measure small things like runout very accurately.

Sorry, I didn't look too close i was just trying to point out the small dial... There are plenty small dial indicators with a 1/2" range as well...
I kind of like the idea of a quality used unit over a crap new one.
The boring mill operators at work use "tenths" indicators and wont trust anything but their old quality units. they prefer to send their's in to be calibrated or cleaned when required... Most of their indicators are over 30 years old.
