This Ebay sale had me interested :p

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harley-D ... 20be762547

.

I am puzzled how a 1987 bike can be titled "Historic, made 1971" But what is this line all about ? :

California now requires any bike to have at least 7,500 miles on the odometer to register in the state. Unless it’s made for California. Making this bike especially desirable for California use.

A long winded sales description I imagine the seller is fishing for a big sale with a lot of hype I doubt there is a big collectors draw to his military bike.

"driven weekly and has a clean clear NY title in hand and in my name. Registered as 1971."

Someone BSed NY State DMV on the registration because in 1971 there are no titles just transferable registration stubs and in 1987 everything is titled his statement makes no sense.

BTW I was in the Army early 80's and Infantry Scout units were running 4 stroke Kawasaki dual purpose bike I saw them first hand nothing special just some camo paint.

Simple to bullshit a DMV and fraudulently register something, incredibly stupid to put that info out on the web complete with Vin
Being ex military it may not have a standard Vin plate from new.

I suspect it is to deter people from buying new bikes in other states and reselling in Ca to get around emmisions laws. I remember reading that somewhere in the 90s that Ca regs were so tough that what came out an auto tailpipe was less poluted than what went in the intake so in theory you were cleaning the air by driving your car

I have a contact at the Fender guitar factory in CA that paints everything from nitro cellulose lacquer to polyurethane finishes. The paint shop there exhausts cleaner air than goes in as well.

It's all bs hype to get stupid money for a pos. The CA law refers to 49 state legal vehicles and importing them to CA. New vehicles (49 state) cannot be registered in CA. Only used ones. CA defines a new vehicle as one with less than 7500 miles.
