yeah it is

With the late H1 iggy you have to use two wire coils like Cody has.....correct?

Guys, thanks for the discussion. Food for thought. My coils seem to be fine, but they are stock and if I could get more performance out of different coils I would buy some. But like most of you, there is a limit to how much I would spend on a possible performance upgrade.

Another thing I would like some input for is fine wire plugs. Any advantage?

You were one of the lucky ones to get something out of new boxes. You won't find any performance you can feel with hotter coils. They only help if the spark is being blown out by compression. New wires never hurt.

If you are looking for hp, then it is time to spend some money on carbs and porting.

In my experience, they are a little more resistant to fouling, if you're having that problem. I know of no other advantage.

The more expensive "fine wire" plugs are a plus on a points system when running dino oil. They resist fouling and easier to start. However, if syn or semi-syn oil is used there is no advantage that I could detect. At one point I was fouling plugs on a points bike as a matter of routine. I changed to HX plugs and at then went to syn oil..... problem solved. I have since gone back to std plugs with good oil and see no problem or degradation of performance.

With CDI I would doubt any performance advantage.

I had a reply typed up and it either disappeared or I forgot to hit submit??? :?

the "fancy" bracket is nothing more than a fork tube mount for a steering damper. It was in a box of junk parts that came with one of the NSR250's I had a few years ago.
bent up a little "U" from a piece of flat aluminum bar and painted it black! Fun finding new uses for old crap. I really wanted to use the stock frame boss and thankfully, everything fits nicely.

this is the "mount" I made for the mini-coils on the KH750. These coils didnt have any mounting hole or tab so I used some foam tubing and wrapped it up in some perforated aluminum....zip tied to the frame. Super light, but in hindsight, the lack of air getting to each coil was probably the cause of one of them melting down on Mark after a few years.

Cody,
I don't think if I stared at that fork bracket for a month I would have seen a coil mount, I am even more impressed, very cool.

I have the little small scooter coils like cody has on the frog and the 73 s2 (s2 = h1e ignition, frog = hid ignition) so far, no issues. Jim recommended them to me. good stuff! advantage: not 40 years old and 2" size. also, wire replacement is easy (vs H2 coils)
