I took my H2 motor apart, carefully bagging up everything. When I put it back together, the ball bearing that fits in with the clutch pushrods and mushroom would not go into the shaft! When I put the bearing in on the clutch side, the mushroom would not go all the way in. I don't get it, these are all the same parts. The rods and mushroom fit just fine. The ball bearing size is 5/16". I went to the hardware store and picked up a 1/4" ball bearing - that worked.

Any ideas why the same ball bearing would not go into the shaft?

At first I thought you were talking about a clutch release with a ball bearing at the pusher like the one below, but it looks like you mean the single steel ball between the actuator and the mushroom. Yes, mine is definitely 5/16". Could there be some hardened oil or a burr, or something like that in the bore?

Hi Jim,

Yes I am referring to the single 5/16" ball bearing. I have the engine back together and I think the 1/16" difference with the smaller bearing won't make a difference.
