Do you have a leaker?

It seems like one of the hardest things to deal with with an old triple is keeping the vital fluids inside the bike. Maybe I am the only one, but I’ve chased leaks on several of my bikes.

I thought of a method that I hadn’t tried before, so last weekend I attacked a small leak on one of my Triples.

I drained the transmission oil then blew a moderate amount of compressed air into the assembled engine cases. While doing this, I sprayed soapy water around the seams and seals.

I found an area that I was surprised was making bubbles so I cleaned the area thoroughly with contact cleaner and then hooked up my shop vac to the oil fill hole. I drew a vacuum in the engine cases and then applied more contact cleaner, pulling it into the leaking seam. Still running the vacuum, I went over the area with 3 bond sealant. I let it dry for a day and filled the engine with the appropriate amount of trans fluid.

Lo and behold: it doesn’t appear to have leaked a drop since then.

This method might be old info to you all, but for me it’s just another tool to put in a the arsenal for fixing old Triples.
