Guys (and Gals), I'm having trouble identifying the correct tank for a 72 H2. If you are looking for parts, sellers love to identify almost anything as 72 H2 even if it's not, probably to jack up the price. I've seen all kinds of parts, ones that are very year specific, mislabeled as H2. Chain guards, headlight buckets, gauges, gas tanks, etc. You really have to be careful to get the right parts. If someone makes a living selling parts, they really should know what they've got.

Does anyone have a good picture of the fill hole clearly showing the gas cap mount? I'm looking for the original tank where the cap lifted towards the front, without the key lock. Hinge in the front and latch in the back. I know they changed this pretty early, maybe as early as 73 with the locking gas cap.

I've been all over the Kawatriple site, haven't found anything that's useful. And looked through a lot of parts diagrams, it looks like it's part number 51002-019.

Thanks,

Dave

There aren't many questions like this that can't be answered by the resource site. :)

Hi Dale! I thought I was typing fast enough, but apparently not.

Guys, thanks for the links. This sums up my love/hate relationship with Kawatriple, the best resource around. No matter how much I search, there's always something I've missed. I did find some reasonable pictures of a tank I was pretty sure was a 72, based on the color. The Kawatriple page confirmed it.

Thanks again for the responses,

Dave

1972 has a non-locking fuel cap. All the U.S. models for 1973 I have seen have locking caps.
