After following this forum for a few years, I finally decided to formally join the group. I live In the Houston area. I am currently doing a complete restoration on my 1974 H2. I am hoping to get some(more like a lot) of input while I work on the restoration. So far, I have most of the powder coating complete. I had Don Fulsang do my gauges. Just got them back last week. I see now why this man comes so highly recommended. His attention to detail is impeccable. I would highly recommend him for anyone that is looking for a high quality restoration on your gauges. I am just finishing up the vapor blasting and am about to start with the re-chroming. My first of many questions happen to be about chrome. I need to re-chrome my front fender and rims. I have received several quotes ranging from $800 to $1,800. Is $800 for the re-chroming seem reasonable? It seems a little high to me. All input is welcomed.
Thank you,
Mike

Welcome to the board Mike! I'll leave the restoration questions to those who do that. I sandblasted all the chrome on my H2 and painted it with black Imron around 1979 and it's still that way. :)

Welcome Miker! Those chroming quotes are very high - must be show quality stuff. I just had a fender rechromed for $250 from a shop in my home state. They do good work and it’s nice but not show quality. They also chromed a JEMCO 3-1 pipe for my Suzuki GT750 at $300. Call around to your local resources and I’ll bet you’ll get a range on pricing. If by chance you want to use my resource, I can supply info so you can peruse their website.

Welcome. Unfortunately the chrome shops are getting few and far between so prices are going to go up.
I agree with you re: Don Fulsang. He's the best!

Welcome from Lake Travis! I too restored a '74 H2, it was 4 yrs ago, Don did my gauges as well.

There is only 1 chrome plating shop in Austin, I know the owner, he does great work but is very expensive. I have found that it can be cheaper to find very good condition original parts than to have some parts rechromed.

IIRC, I paid $175 for a very nice front fender, it would have been $250 or more for chrome. My bike is not a "show bike" but a very nice rider so just depends on your level of restoration.

Good to hear that you had parts vapor blasted, that leaves such a nice finish and has lasted for me. I did cases, cylinders, heads, carbs as well as few other parts.

Let me know if I can help in any way.
