Post subject:  matching numbers

perhaps this topic has already been dealt with, but among friends we wondered why in the three cylinders the frame and engine numbers never match, they are never the same, unlike many other brands of motorcycles, and cars, for example Porsche, whose chassis and engine numbers match. and how much is the difference between the two numbers normally? is it possible that it varies by 500 numbers ??

Frame/Engine nos can differ by thousands.

Hi Paola. My '69 was almost a numerical match with KAF-00466 and KAE-0465. And I believe I've seen engine numbers that were both higher and lower than the frame, for the same model year.

The factory only had one line each, engines, full motorcycles.

So, if engines were needed for warehouses all over the world, they were pulled out of engine supplies as needed, no specific engine identification sequence.
