Marco Simoncelli, 20 January, 1987 - 23 October, 2011.

Fell in the Maylasian GP, hit by two other riders. Also involved in the incident, both Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi. Edwards was injured, Rossi very slightly. Simo was unconcious when medical staff reached him, and passed some 45 minutes later from head, chest and other internal injuries. Simo lost traction through turn 11, then, basically crashed, and the bike then regained slight traction, and his bike then ran into first Edwards, then Rossi. Edwards suffered an ankle and other injuries, Rossi stayed upright but ran off the track. Simo was hit by two riders, and had his helmet removed from his head by the incident.

It isn't fun at all to get a phone call, or e/mail from a race team in the middle of the night with this type of race report. I just checked my e/mail, and have a video cut of the incident sent by a friend at ESPN, and I just don't want to look at it right now, maybe in a few days or so.

You are now racing in a very different organization, with a lot of great riders whom have gone there previously, Simo, RIP.

Sad news any time a rider goes Dave.
Thanks for sharing the news though.

I have seen the video, very sickening. It appears Edwards hit him in the back/ribs and then Rossi hit his neck/head ripping off his helmet.

Godspeed Marco.

a tragic accident I was sickened watching it , you new straight away he was badly hurt , the coverage was very reserved and didnt show the accident again which was good, no one wants to see someone hurt , the crowds reaction was very poor to say the least , If I were a rider there I would never race there again , Marco was a rising STAR who rode in a class of his own , he will be sorely missed

[b]before the race some of the riders were commenting about just how slippery this circuits surface has become over the years, and I understand that it is scheduled to be re-surfaced in the future.

I witnessed the accident on live T.V coverage and it was truly sickening.

Marco was an up and coming star who was obviously very talented.

This is a terrible loss and awfully sad day for Moto GP

RIP Marco  /b]
