Post subject: | H2 hydraulic steering damper |
I just bought a new hydraulic steering damper for my H2B. Have not ridden it yet, crap weather and working on my engine patent project. Any insight into these, does anyone else run them? I had read that the mount bracket can crack. My reasons for using one, when the front wheel gets light, if I go over a road heave bump, I will get a small steering wiggle just after the bump, before the front end settles down again. It's nothing really, but could see that getting into something bigger if the conditions were just right. |

I always have run them, I needed it! Must be my riding style. ![]() The frame mounts crack, because the fit is just a bit short and flexes the badly designed mount. A couple of reinforcement welds and you are good to go. ![]() |

Definitely reinforce the mount. It sucks when it breaks loose and the damper gets stuck in the engine cooling fins when you need to steer to the right! |

I'll see about the mount, sucks, the frame paint is all nice. |

I had to weld mine when I broke it... the mount and the fin. It was in a parking lot, and had the damper turned up high by accident. I tried to make a turn and the mount broke. Then in trying to balance as usual, I found I couldn't turn the bar to the right easily. I gave a mighty shove to keep from falling and broke the fin off. I did stay upright though. |

This happened to Evans as we rode into Maryville right after the Dragon and Foothills parkway!! Could have been tragic if the mount broke a few miles before. Scratch that...it WOULD have been tragic. |

I was told that claimed the life of a fellow triple rider a few years ago over in England. Over there having the stand suddenly straighten up your left turn can send you into oncoming traffic. |
