I have a 72 H2. The hash marks on my speedometer and tac are light blue. I've owned the bike since 1978 and my friend who sold it to me confirmed that he changed nothing. I have noticed that latter years and even some 72's I've run across have the speedo and tac with hash marks that are a greenish tint.
I was under the impression that the blue hash marks are the correct (and original) color for the 72's and if seen on a 72, indicates that they are replacement units and that the ones with green hash marks are latter production.

Bottom line; a friend has an early 72 with the afore mentioned "green" hash marks on his speedo and tac. I maintain that this might indicate fitment of replacement instruments since mine has the blue hash mark instruments which I know came with the bike.

Does anyone know for certain which color is correct for the 72?
