Back from work, modern Beemer flat twin liquid cooled (btw is only heads or heads and barrels?).red traffic light outperformed him when the green came. At the next red light, he said me " Nice bike you have got but your bike stink"" it's a 2 stroke" I replied but he said " beurk it stink when you're behind" so I said " I don't care as am not behind" :D

Perfect response! He obviously doesn't appreciate the "original" performance bike of the 70's, regardless of the smoke and smell.

BMW claims the R1200R has 125 Hp.....in my experience (and my BMW friends) BMW claimed Hp numbers are rear wheel.

For example: my 2010 R1200R has a BMW claimed 109 hp....it does dyno at that number.

BMW's takes 5 to 10k miles to break-in (depending on the riders throttle hand). I've seen many people get their new BMW dyno'ed after putting maybe 1k miles on it, they raise hell that the number is maybe 100 Hp. If they'll dyno again at 10k they'll be much happier.

I've driven my buddy's R1200RS....that thing will push the blood back in you head.

Well it was a dyno run, and loving the story about 5-10K break in, pretty funny ;)

I've been a certified BMW Master Tech for just over 4 - 1/2 decades now. First one I ever worked on was one of the first air cooled R50 Boxer 500 Twins. It had over 66k miles on it, and seeped oil from both base gaskets (not a leak, just enough seepage to be a pain). Upon tear down for gaskets only and de-carb to, the bore still had as finished at the factory honing on the bores, rings appeared to have no wear, valve guides and valves had no wear, and carbon buildup was minimal. That was in the early 1970's, that thing is probably still running perfectly today

Yup, I believe it.

I just did a full service on a BMW bike, the City of Yerington City Attorney has one of the new six cylinder BMW bikes, extremely nice. We went riding after I did the work, me on my EFI converted KZ1300 6, the Beemer is a serious fun bike to ride, even though it is fully touring outfitted.
