Took the S3\KH400 up to Suches, GA - TWO Wheels of Suches. Time to blow out the cobwebs!

Exhaust was extra smoky for about 8 miles and then cleared out and is running clean! The engine feels great!

Only gripe is a lot of oil spitting out the exhaust. I'm running 42:1 prefix. Oil pump is disconnected.

any ideas about what is going on?

I'm in the middle.

Thanks! But right now I'm mixing the oil in a separate 1 gallon container. And sense the bike is really still in storage I'm draining the tank. Once the smoke cleared yesterday it hasn't been smoking bad since but it is still spitting in excessive amount of oil out the pipes.

Maybe I just need to take the exhaust pipes off and burn them out. I will try that first.

That is why a properly set up oil pump system makes all the difference. Where you are now running a 40:1 or so mix, the oil pump would more than likely do a 65:1 to 75:1 ratio. And, yes, the chambers inside the mufflers do collect unburned oils, takes a while to get it heated up, and forced into the exhaust to get pushed out the baffles.

So if I went to 50:1 premix I'd be safe?

Why not go back to the the factory oil pump? It was designed to use that feature.

I know on my H1 500, it also oils the main bearings.

Not just smoking on the RH cylinder? If that is the case, can be a dead RH crank seal, sucking in gearbox oil.

Yeah, the stock system gives you mixes approaching 100:1 at light load, and down around 20:1 when wide open. I'm not sure I'd want my H2 running wide open at 50:1, although I know some guys run premix at that ratio.

I’ve been running 32:1 in my s3 for as long as I can remember. It does leak some oil out the ends, especially when I’ve been running around town a while and get on it in the backroads. Smoke usually clears up in a bit. I could probably do 40:1 and it would be ok. I wouldn’t worry about oil out the back too much as long as the gearbox isn’t leaking into the right hand cylinder. You can wash the exhaust out with gas and it will be better for a bit, oil will disappear for a while, but the oil will return. I wouldn’t bother leaning the mix down. you’ll oil starve parts well before you get it running clean out the exhaust. Just part of the joy when mixing. 8-)

I see no adverse issues running the stock oil injection systems (even the stock 4 line ones), when the check valve pressures and throttle baile (cable) settings are correct, and, good oil is used.

The second version of the H2 with the 4 line oiling systems are different, they are much like the H2R's. They use an oil line to each left main bearing and rod bearing, and pre-mix through the intake port, different than the early 3 line systems. The 4 line systems are not my favorites.

Pre-mixing went 'gone with the wind' decades ago.
