Hello:

What do you guys do to winterize your Triples? I have been draining oil tank, removing battery, and taking the carbs off to drain the gas out of them. I have a 1971 H1A restored and it is a bit of a chore to remove carbs because the stock air cleaner boot (the older multiple piece set-up) does take some time to deal with. I run real gas (no eth.) in the bike.

Just a suggestion, why don't you move that beautiful bike into the heated living room, what else is a living room good for anyway, then on a nice clear winter day roll it out and take if for a short ride. If the weather isn't that good just roll it into the garage and start it up a couple of times per month. It would be pretty tough to have to go through the whole winter and not hear the sound of a Triple.

I think it was Tony Nicosia (or maybe not, it's been a while since I heard this) who mentioned to me to hold the oil pump wide open while idling prior to shutting off the ignition. This in a sense "fogs" the internals with a light coating of oil for storage.

I have a heated shop so I do nothing. My shop is always 60°F (15°C) or higher during winter storage.
Never noticed any canges to the gas during winter storage which is approximatley 5 months.

Instead of pulling the carbs to drain, I shut off the fuel petcock and let the bike run until it stalls, using up most of the fuel in the float bowl.

Stabil has worked great for me, I also kick it over slow every time I think of it, not sure it makes much difference but it makes me feel better :D
Also a good alternative is some AV gas or something like Sunoco or VP fuel, those fuels are stable for many many months compared to pump gas. A couple gals will cost but you know in the spring it will be good and not have gummed or lost its ability to burn well. Put it in and go for one last ride right before the november hunt!

I like the idea of holding the pump open too, I know I am usually looking at 6 months of storage and hoping for less!
And you guys from the sunny states stay out of this :P :lol: (it sucks putting them away and not being able to ride)
And from what I have seen from pictures husson73 is just plain tough or flat out crazy! :thumbup:
