I might be asking in the wrong place, but I am giving this a shot anyway. I sold an H1A to a gentleman in France, and he is having it shipped to him from me in Illinois. The shipping company is requesting a copy of my passport as a document needed for shipping, and I am a little uneasy about this. The seller did a wire transfer to my bank for the bike, so he has my banking information already. Anybody run into this before? |

I would think it would be bike registration/title rather than passport.... maybe translation error? |

I've shipped large items, like cars and bikes overseas, and have never been asked for a passport by any shipper, nor by government entities. Last large ship I made was just a year ago, no passport asked for. Maybe things have changed in the last 12 months, but I haven't heard any of it. |

I would call the buyer and or shipper and tell them that is a stupid demand. Refuse to do it if you have been paid. It is buyers responsibility to collect the bike, unless he paid you to ship it. |

What if you don't have a passport? |

I haven't ever looked into this, but, I see you are close to Canada, I wonder if it might be easier to turf the bike up there, and ship from there ti France. JP (Husson) should know all this when he comes on topic, and, I do believe he is a lawyer in France as well. . |

Firstly, you would only need to supply a passport if YOU were the person shipping it - so politely refuse, or ask why, and, out of curiosity then tell us why ? Secondly, you will have to supply the title and a bill of sale, if there is no title then you will have to supply a notorised bill of sale, bills of sale should have names and addresses of both parties, the date, the V.I.N. and finally a sale value, bear in mind that Froggy will be paying 30% taxes on it and there will be no come back on you if he asks that you put a value of say $1,200 on it. |
