so, i did this to my s2 last year, and had it at the gap. made a huge world of difference (especially to those who rode it can probably attest to)

it turns out that the disc brake s2's and proabably other s-series use the exact, and i mean exact same fork uppers and rods as an rd350.

this being said, you CAN use rd spring in them. which the s series springs are severely lacking. whats more important, is you can get valve emulators from mikes xs really cheap, and they WORK. im sure htey are knockoffs of racetech valves, and they say they are only for 35mm forks.. however, they can and do work on 34mm forks.

there is a tiny bit of fab. 1: you have to cut the raised lip off the damper rod. 2" you have to create a pocket for the gold valve to sit in. i used my lathe for this but it could be done by hand with a dremel or by welding an aluminum washer on top.

you also need to drill out the lower holes in the rod a bit. directions are here:

then you set the pre-load on the valve, they recommend 2 turns from totally loose. this is good for me at 195 lbs.

then you can either trim the roll pin or the end of the adjuster nut on the valve. i decided to trip the end of the nut to clear. thats it. then you drop it in. it also gives about 3/8" additional preload to the spring above whats stock.

did this last night on the rd project but the forks are identicle. have not had an issue out of the s2 ones in over a year.

i would imagine they will work on h1 and even h2 forks as well. ?

That is what makes this hobby and sport so good, people trying alternatives, devising fixes, modifications, solutions, just plain the best.
