Beware! even if you do a cafe or a custom you can/will spend a lot of money. I'm guessing the crank in that thing will need rebuilt, that's $1000 right out of the gate... Lots of fun and frustration though :)

Wow jason! Nice build! End result looks great!
Was that a 93 or 94 katana? 600cc chassi I assume? I'm all too familiar with customs and money involved o do them. I have a 1500sq foot shop, 2 custom cars, 1 motorcycle and the most expensive, a boat. All go fast machines, mr. Snap on man Is my drug dealer as well. As I said the engine fired right up and ran smooth. Somewhere I have a vid of it when I got it running in the summer, I'll post it.

Thanks for the compliment. It was a 94 600 Katana. Sounds like your shop is amazing. I'll look you up for tips on what to include when I get around to replacing mine

It has been a while but I do know that I got my rods replaced and I am 90% sure I went for the premium bearings. I didn't want to have rpm issues. Seems like I also had a bad wheel; press fit hole was too loose. I'm going to tell myself that all of this is true and likely added to the cost.

Yup, that's what it was

In my opinion, it's unlikely that any of the vendors in Dale's list would have overcharged you. If you used Dave or Charlie, I think the chance is about zero.

The crank looked great and runs awesome, so no regrets. The gent did a great job on it

Nice to see all the stories and info of what has been done to our scooters. In the condition that mine is, I know I'm gonna spend some money no matter what, but want to spend it where it's best. Stock, I understand, a purist, yes do that! At the same time spend that kind of money, make it what I want and be happy to ride it? I am a somoker lover! However bring it to stock and it's worth more money that way, be afraid to ride it because it is stock and restored and take the chance of wrecking it?? Or build it into something that keeps the smoker "spirit" alive and ride the piss out of it??

Dilemmas.........

I like to see a person build a triple the way he wants it to be, and enjoy riding it for a long time.

Translation: "scooter" is slang for any bike in the U.S., in Europe a scooter is a small wheeled, leg shielded city bike........ My French is nowhere near as good as J.P's English!!
