Late 72, July/August build date would make it an H1D and it would have a CDI... It would be green. H1B was points and orange.

It was Orange originally and would have looked like this had he not painted it brown;

I painted it white in the same design, the original paint was still there under the brown, of coarse the build date is only a guess from memory, the build date was not a priority as it was always going to be a race bike;

He posted engine and frame numbers a couple pages back, Dale.

That's the 1973 H1D type system. Someone has been swapping parts, and you got what I think of as the best ignition system of all the triples.

Edit: fixed year

This is from your site, does this mean they were fitted to the H1A & B also, or is it a part A & B description?? (ie) part A and Part B

73 H1D A & B Ignition boxes

It means there are two types of boxes in the photo, three A boxes and one B box. That style is used on the 1973 H1D, and all H2s. Later H1s used one A and one B box, and earlier ones used one large A and one large B box, which were 12v powered (not magneto) units, unlike the later ones.

I try to avoid the A and B labels for the various ignition units because it's confusing, and can lead to buying the wrong parts. The H1D system that you have has one ignition rectifier and three CDI units.

The only real difference between the H1D units and the H2 units is that H1D units have longer wires because of a different mounting location.
