I think that's a paradox.

Coops, do you have to use the drum brake in the class you intend to race in?

Uuhm, no I don't. But the club I race with uses MNZ rules which states brakes must be period (amongst other things).
Which means I could use the Lockheed or scarab ones that were introduced on the ducati 750 in 72. Stinkwheel racers used them too in the day.
But I want to run something different and I want the hub look. So I think I will use a triumph conical hub which a mate has got for me cheap.
Old parts are hard too find here, you have to make best of what you can find. I'm still looking for some forks. Not that keen on using the 72 chrome ones I have. Not much chrome left on them

Ive decided to do a bike build thread. Weather i carry on with it is another question because it takes time and I get a bit annoyed posting up picks. I'm not looking for advice, if I need advice I will ask in another post, and by the time I post a pick, the decision is made, weather it is right or wrong. I have just enjoyed other peoples build threads so I thought I would share mine. Posts will be few and far between, I will try not to bore you with the normal build stuff. My goal is to have it on the track in 14 months for our local southern classic festival race meeting. So here goes...........
Havnt done much yet as I am trying to finish off assembling my Pre89 F1 race bike for round 2 of our season, but I have made some decisions and bought some parts in.
Image
Decided to convert the 71 engine clutch cover to late clutch cover (I had a spare one from my 73 road bike) because when I possibly slide down the road it wipes out the iggy system on the 71 engine! That's not a good way to start a race bike thread!
Image
As the doner engine came with no iggy system at all I also had a spare pickup stuff for my D (looks like its been down the road before) But the windings are no good which is fine because I want to run total loss. To keep costs down I also bought four each of these scooter coils and CDI units. one spare of each
Image
Decided to keep it simple and import a stock rear hub. Parts here are impossible to find so it came from good old USofA
Cost bloody $169 USD to ship it though! And I weighs half a tone compared to the front conical
Image
I could've done front disc (Anything pre 72 goes) But wanted to go with drum and my mate had a conical from period Triumph/BSA
They work quite well, one of the best stock brakes in the day (when set up right). And it is light. Probably half of the weight of the rear H1 hub which I will maybe lighten some how
Image
And last but definitely not least (for now) I purchased my first big spend. Front rim. The rear is still on its way probably in some shipping container.
Image
Which now means I'm locked into this build! :)
