I am a Lyon County Sheriff's Department 'Volunteer In Policing' (VIP, unpaid, non-sworn civilian service official), and am the DMV registration numbers authentication officer. I get called to read VIN, engine and other ID numbers from anything that is considered a 'vehicle', and aircraft. Our Sheriff is also a car and motorcycle nut, and we usually travel together for a really interesting vehicle authentication. We see some extremely interesting and fun stuff.
