Just picked up another H1 and its either a very late 70 or a very early 71. The numbers come up as a 71 H1A but the bike has the scolloped tank and the left side cover had a badge. It was supposedly a one owner bike, and was never molested. So....during the transition from 70 to 71 did kawi use some parts on the shelf just to get rid of them? The bike has a build date of 7/70 and engine number 22306 frame 23994

But not w/ scalloped tank....

A build date of 7/70 indicates a 1970 model year. 71 models would have a build date of 9/70 and later.

Is that an "absolute" for an early triple - not much else is...........?

I don't think that is true but I don't have anything to back it up...

Nothing is written in stone when it comes to triples (except when RB writes it) but I do know the new model transition traditionally is in September in the US. Every vin I have checked has followed this. :e11

I don't understand why it has a build date of 07/70 ? The bike should be a Blue H1a, a 1971 model, all my records show that the 20 or so bikes that I have on file either side of your VIN were all built in August 1970 - It is pretty border line on the Model so I can't give a definitive answer to the question

Nope, I can guarantee that the first 2,000 "1971" H1a models were built in August 1970
